Cadastre in South Tyrol: The Importance for Property Owners and Investors

Updated: Sep 14, 2023

The cadastre system in South Tyrol is distinct from those in other Italian regions and has a long history that dates back to 1855 when detailed land surveys began. After World War I, and with the transition of Bolzano and Trento to Italy, the management of the old Austrian cadastre was transferred to the Italian state. The General Directorate of Cadastre in Rome recognized the uniqueness of the South Tyrolean cadastre and its linkage to the land register, which serves as its essential complement. For this reason, it confirmed the effectiveness of the old Austrian legislation and retained it. Since then, the system has been continually refined to meet changing requirements.
